Australian Marriage Act is based on a true story of two underage teenagers, pregnant with their first child, who take their fight to marry to the Supreme Court. The case is opposed by the girl's mother.
The work draws the audience into the exhilaration, myths and complexities of love, pregnancy and ambivalent teenage-parent relationships. Three actors play 22 characters in an intense physical play set to a timed soundtrack.
Commissioned by Arena Theatre, Australian Marriage Act toured schools and art centres in regional and metropolitan Australia over seven years.
